It has just been announced that another 17 turbine wind farm this side of Drumnadrochit, near Balnain is being planned by a development company called Force 9 Energy. This is in the vicinity of Cnoc an Eas hill, and lies to the north of Loch Meiklie. The wind farm would comprise of up to 17 turbines, 126.5m or 411ft in height.
Public exhibitions are being held at:
- Glenurquhart Public Hall – Monday 24 November – 1.00 pm to 8.30 pm
- Kilmorack Community Hall – Tuesday 25 November – 11.00 am to 6.00 pm
- Kiltarlity Community Hall – Wednesday 26 November – 10 am to 2.00 pm
- Cannich Hall – Wednesday 26 November – 4.0 pm to 8.30 pm
We now have this application on the hills above Kilmartin and Balnain (17 turbines), East end of the Strath (25 turbines), Beinn Mhor (6 turbines) and another proposal above Cannich (10 turbines) – these are just the ones that we know about. When these developments are built 9 out of 10 extend.
Force 9 Energy has been working away on it for the last 3 years before coming out the cupboard. How many other developments are waiting in the wings?
If Beinn Mhor gets the go ahead many landowners in this area will undoubtedly be lining up with other proposals. It has happened elsewhere, destroying communities, house values, creating social immobility.
This is just the beginning.
Glen Urquhart Community Council has submitted that it believes that approval for Beinn Mhor will set a precedent for more.
If we stop the Beinn Mhor proposal , then we can set the precedence to Protect our Glens.
